The Apparel Industry Foundation, Inc. (AIFI) a 501 © 3, is the philanthropic arm of the Apparel Industry Board.

"Mayor Harold Washington came to us in 1987 with the charge of spearheading a task force to assess Chicago’s design and manufacturing community. We uncovered a wealth of talent, a dedicated workforce trained and ready to work hard, and designers who put “Chicago style” on the map! What they had a need for was a City agency to coordinate their needs, connect them with the right resources to grow their businesses, and a little direction and promotion. From these findings, AIBI was born and in looking back, I often wondered how we dared to dream so boldly... but what successes we have had!"
