High School Summer Internships at AIBI

Are you looking for a unique summer opportunity? Are you curious about exploring career paths in fashion or costumes? Apply HERE.

AIFI summer interns will get a career jumpstart into the parallel Chicago industries of fashion and costume production. We work with numerous local apparel designers and organizations (Peach Carr: Project Runway S8, Chicago Fair Trade, etc) as well as local theatre and film (Goodman Theatre, Timeline Theatre, Apple TV, etc…). Interns will have many development and networking opportunities by attending our events including monthly socials, breakfast clubs, educational events, clothing swaps, and more. Additionally, we offer flexible scheduling which will allow the student to participate in other summer programs or employment. Weekly hours will vary depending on the needs of the organization and the intern, approximately 5-10 hours per week, paid hourly with the opportunity for hybrid/remote work as deemed appropriate. There will be 2 weeks where hours go up to 20 to assist in preparing for major events.

Interns will gain a basic understanding of various career paths within the Chicago apparel and costume industries including terminology and insights that can help them hone their future education and job application process. Students will gain a working knowledge of history and terminology in costume and fashion through the work and our resource library on site.

The mission of AIFI is to support the Chicago fashion, apparel, and sewn products industry through mentoring programs, scholarships, educational seminars, technical training and the retention and creation of jobs. The student selected will be primarily working with our Conscious Costume program with the mission to educate and empower costume professionals by providing resources and community to galvanize a more ethical, inclusive, and circular world.
