Panelists:
Robin Harris, (@rhmodelatelier), CEO and Creative Director of MODEL ATELIER and CONFIDENCE Apparel, Robin Harris, is putting her stamp on the fashion world.
A former fashion model represented by Ford Models, Robin has traveled the world donning luxury clothing that fit her tall frame on the runway, but as soon as she stepped off the runway the same fit and design she became accustomed to was not available in the department stores. She realized that luxury brands didn't produce apparel for the tall female consumer. With an MBA in International Business, Robin decided to create a business that filled the void and MODEL ATELIER was born. MODEL ATELIER's focus on designing classic and elegant pieces for elongated frames relieved the frustrations that tall women have when it comes to finding stylish clothes that are the perfect fit and length.
After creating Model Atelier, Robin still felt a need to do something that could have an impact on youth in areas like North Lawndale, the inner-city Chicago area she was born. As a result Robin created CONFIDENCE Apparel, a young contemporary apparel brand whose mission is to empower young women and men of all shapes and sizes to love themselves as they are and believe they are capable of achieving greatness. A percentage of proceeds from every sale goes toward furthering the education of youth in underserved communities who want to pursue education in science, technology, engineering, entrepreneurship or math (STEEM) related fields. Equipped with industry knowledge and an innovative approach toward business, Robin's accomplishments include making Model Atelier the first official fashion boutique of the WNBA's Chicago Sky and being listed as a 2019 member of Crain's Chicago Business 40 Under 40. "I want tall women to feel confident, powerful and sexy when they wear my garments!"
Josefina Jiménez, (@josefina.jimenez.estilosalon) born in Chicago to Mexican migrants from the state of Jalisco, Josefina’s journey is a testament to resilience and the pursuit of dreams against all odds. Growing up in the culturally rich neighborhoods of Chicago, Josefina was deeply influenced by her heritage and the strong work ethic instilled by her father.
From a young age, she displayed an artistic flair and a keen eye for beauty, which would later become the cornerstone of her flourishing career. After completing her middle education at Lane Tech College, and later Paul Mitchell The School Chicago, Josefina embarked on a journey to pursue her passion for beauty and aesthetics. She delved into various fields within the industry, honing her skills and gaining invaluable experience along the way. It wasn’t until she discovered the art of microblading that Josefina found her true calling. Microblading, a semi-permanent eyebrow enhancement technique, captured Josefina’s imagination with its ability to transform and enhance natural beauty.
Estilo Microblading Salon opened its doors in 2021. With meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to excellence, Josefina quickly earned a reputation as the best microblading artist in the city. Fueled by her entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to reach more clients, she expanded her business to a second location in Oakbrook. Despite the challenges of managing two establishments, Josefina embraced her role as both a mother and CEO with grace and determination. Josefina has not only transformed countless faces but has also empowered women to feel confident and beautiful in their own skin.
Regina Trillo, (@nemisnacks), originally from Mexico City and now based in Chicago, Regina felt unrepresented the moment she stepped foot in Chicago grocery stores. Regina found brands portraying Mexican cultura in a stereotypical way and mostly using artificial ingredients.
Nemi Snacks was founded with a mission to elevate Mexican cultura in the U.S. through high-quality Mexican snacks in sombrero-free branding. Nemi Snacks are crunchy sticks made from seeds and nopales (a.k.a. prickly pear cactus) in Mexican-inspired flavors like Mexican Lime, Smoky Chipotle, Chile Turmeric and Churro. Nemi works directly with Mexican farmers, uses real chiles and spices and no artificial colors or ingredients. Regina has spent her legal career advocating for human rights by providing legal services to immigrants and implementing programs on a range of global human rights issues in Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa and the United States.
A celebration of Women's History Month, we are highlighting women in Chicago that are making strides in their respective industries. Join us as we hear their stories and learn from their experiences. This event is open to anyone that wants to learn more about entrepreneurship, starting a business whether experienced or just starting out, we invite you to attend and meet like minded individuals so that you can expand your network and make some new friends along the way.
